The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Follow the yellow brick road all the way to Oz as Adventure Theatre-MTC puts on a marvelous production of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Most of us have some background knowledge of this time old tale where Dorothy and her little dog Toto venture their way back home while meeting some special friends along the way. With some twists and turns in this adaptation, Director Roberta Gasbarre, has guided the remarkable cast of actors and actresses in giving the audience a spectacular show.
Adapted by Jacquelin Lawton, this rendition of The Wizard of Oz is perfectly timed and not too scary for the younger set. Children will be able to draw parallels to L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel throughout the hour duration of the performance. We were impressed by the use of special effects to create wind, the grand movements by the actors to symbolize a haunted forest and the excellent use of the entire stage for each scene of the play.
The stage opens with the curious Dorothy and darling Toto hoping for some excitement in their boring Kansas life. Soon after, a vivacious cyclone shakes things up a bit by taking Dorothy and Toto to the land of Oz. Landing in the vibrant town of Munchkinland, Dororthy and Toto meet a pleasant witch who offers Dorothy some sparkly silver slippers and a chance at meeting the great Oz. They must follow the yellow brick road in hopes that their wishes will be granted. Along the way Dorothy meets the brain seeking Scarecrow, the hoping-to-love Tin Man and the want-to-be-brave Lion. The plot keeps you on the edge of your seat as Dorothy and crew have run in’s with flying monkeys, witches and a Haunted Forest.
Click your heels three times and head on over to Adventure Theatre-MTC to experience the land of Oz! Join Dorothy, played by the charming Paige Hernandez, as she travels over the rainbow.
