The Scene If it’s a nice day and you’re in Georgetown, there’s no doubt that there will be a lot of people in the city and that there will be a line down the street to enter Thomas Sweet. It was a famous cool spot long before President Obama paid the ice cream confectionery a visit. Having said that, don’t even think of parking in Georgetown. Take metro, enjoy the walk, relax on the patio and browse the shops or hit up a park afterwards. Thomas Sweet opens as early as 10 a.m. and closes late at night daily. The Food Thomas Sweet is all about pleasing the palette. They stock approximately 45 flavors of ice cream! Don’t forget the 13 flavors of frozen yogurt, 5 kinds of sorbet, fudge, cookies, almond croissants, chocolate covered pretzels and truffles. Serving up parfaits, shakes, floats, smoothies, sundaes, banana splits and even ice cream cakes. In the freezer you can pick up chipwiches and ice cream pre-packed in quarts. Toppings include the usual suspects along with wet walnuts, peppermint patties and sugar free chocolate chips. The Kid Appeal Who doesn’t love free? We’re talking free samples of not only ice cream, but also fudge. Be aware though that a small serving of ice cream is really two scoops. Eyes will go big when they see the rainbow selection of waffle cones. Flavors include Vanilla chips, Oreo, Peach, Swiss Chocolate Malt, Banana, Cotton Candy, Cinnamon, Lemon Custard and Bubble Gum. The Cookie Monster ice cream is addictive. It’s a combination of four kinds of crumbled cookies mixed with vanilla ice cream. Definitely worth a try! Noise Level Noisy, mainly due to the time of day.
