The Scene Located in the bustling Columbia Heights neighborhood, The Heights is a great place to stop with kids for a break and tasty lunch or dinner after shopping at Target, playing at the fountain nearby or in the indoor playground across the street (Magic Ground) or otherwise wandering the neighborhood. The Food The Heights has a huge selection of food from delicious salads and sandwiches to burgers and chili and large platters of fried chicken, salmon and even grilled tofu. Many entrees are served with bread and crispy, salty flatbread wedges and white bean dip. They also have an extensive brunch menu with a huge selection of “bennys” (benedicts), waffles, omelets and more. There are also great dessert, wine, and coffee selections along with a full bar. In short, there is something for everyone from the basic to the gourmet. The Kid Appeal The Heights is a popular destination with kids. Kids are given crayons when they arrive with a coloring page or they can draw on the white paper covering tables. The kids’ menu is more varied than most, and includes smoothies and tofu bites along with more traditional items like grilled cheese, burgers, and fish sticks as well as brunch items on weekends. Servers also put in the orders for kids’ meals first. Noise level It’s relatively quiet, but with music playing not too quiet that you need to worry about the kids making some noise. High chairs/boosters Boosters and Highchairs are both available. Changing tables Yes. Photos by Jamie Davis Smith.
