Take a spin on RIO Washingtonian’s shiny new attraction! The Carousel presented by Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is the newest addition to RIO’s family-friendly lakefront attractions, which include paddleboats, a trackless train and playground, all situated along its picturesque boardwalk. The Carousel features 30 dancing horses, two chariots, and lots of whimsical creatures – including a seal, dolphin, ostrich, rooster, lowland gorilla, elephant, eagle, pig, and more! The Carousel allows for up to 38 adult and 30 children passengers, with wheelchair access and chariot wheelchair positions. The classic attraction features beautiful Americana-style scenery, an antique-style lighted ceiling, spiral brass pole sleeves, beveled glass mirrors, crown lighting and music. The Carousel overlooks the lake, complemented with a seating area, accent tables and shade trees for guests – perfect for enjoying in between rides! Throughout the year, RIO Washingtonian and Adventist HealthCare will host “Foundation Days,” when carousel proceeds will benefit the Adventist Foundations. Tickets for the Carousel are $3.00. Riders under 42” must be accompanied by an adult. The Carousel is open seasonally from 11 am – 8 pm daily. The carousel is located next to the playground along the lake at RIO Washingtonian, right off of I-270 at Exit 9B in Gaithersburg, MD. Enjoy plenty of free parking at one of our four parking garages throughout the center. We’re also near the Shady Grove station, on Metro’s Red Line.
