The Nationals Play Park is now open at the Dulles Town Center. We decided to check out the new baseball themed toddler play area to see what it had to offer. Located in the eatery adjacent to the carousel, the play park is open to anyone 42” and under. As with all indoor mall play areas, children must be accompanied by an adult who is 18 years or older. We were there mid-week and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of active parent supervision. So many times we have seen children who are too tall running around in a toddler mall play area, parents checked out on their phones not paying attention to what their kids are doing but that wasn’t the case the day we were visiting. This toddler play park has a variety of climbing and sliding structures all centered around the Nationals baseball team. There are a few slides, a large baseball glove to climb in, a bat to slide down or climb up and a helmet that is fun for the children to sit inside and pretend play with peers. Seating for adults is located around the inside perimeter of the play area with cubby holes for shoes underneath. I was able to sit with my 9 month old while watching my two older girls run around and have a ball. They could see me and I could see them. It’s much easier to supervise your children in this particular indoor play area than the Fair Oaks indoor park. Even the largest structure will not obstruct your view of your children. Also while we were there, mall security popped in to make sure that all strollers were parked in the designated stroller area and that food and drinks were kept to the outside of the play park. Dulles Town Center also offers other kid-friendly activities. There is a carousel, a train and almost every Thursday Rocknoceros performs in the food court! Things to Note Make sure you wear or bring socks. Shoes are not allowed in the park. The bathrooms are located close to the play area. Bring hand sanitizer. Absolutely no food or drinks allowed, by children or adults. Strollers must be parked in the designated stroller area. Play area will close periodically during the day for cleaning (1:45pm for 15 minutes) or for extended periods for unscheduled maintenance. Open all mall hours.Review and photos by Marcy Fisher.
