The Scene The Virginia locations of Café Rio Mexican Grill are located in Burke, Chantilly, Falls Church and Manassas. My family visits the Chantilly (Greenbriar Shopping Center) location the most, although we have been to the Burke location and it is almost identical in layout. Café Rio is known for FRESH! There aren’t any microwaves, freezers or premade products. The tortillas process is seen as you wait and line and you can watch yours bake on the round, flat “Comal” in front of the window. Similar to a Chipotle or Subway, you order your food and walk down the window and watch it being made. It is really fun for kids to see their food being pushed down the line and say “yes or no” to their options. They can see everything. To know about the specials, “like” them on Facebook and always look at their menu board. The seating area is large with many square tables and chairs that can be pushed together. There are always a large number of families and children at the Chantilly location, many neighbors meet here with their children in the evenings. The Food Adults love the burritos ($7.95) but burrito bowls, fajitas, tacos, nachos, salads ($5.75-$8.50) are also available. Look out for their specials which are featured on the menu board (usually around $4-$5). Tuesdays special is tacos and the other days of the week vary. We have been twice for the $1 burrito nights. YES! That is a whole burrito (for adults and kids) for $1. It is crowded on these nights but worth the wait, it cleared out by 7 pm. For children with small appetites, go with the free cheese quesadillas – it can be plenty for some children. For larger kid appetites, you will get a larger and meat filled quesadilla ($3.75) with a side of chips and drinks. They have some unusual self-serve drinks (mint lemonade and horchata are examples) in addition to fountain sodas. Other tips or things to know ahead of time: beware, we have always noticed a basket with mints by the cash register that my kids like to grab in handfuls. Ask for and make sure to have them punch your frequent buyer card – 10 punches = a free meal. Ordering online is available if you need to pick something up. The Kid Appeal Every child under 6 gets a fresh, Nino Cheese Quesadilla made on the spot for FREE! Another popular night for kids is TACO TUESDAYS. For $1.95, adults and kids get a huge taco and for a little extra you can purchase a drink. Anything can be made mild. All drinks come with lids, even if you get a cup of water. Noise Level Medium, open restaurant with fun music. High chairs/Boosters Many wood high chairs available, but no boosters. Changing Tables Yes, available. Review and photos by Andrea Verwys.
